IMPORTANT MEMBER ANNOUNCEMENT

The NVSSA Board of Directors has decided to look at a change in the management of the NVSSA. After discussion the Board of Directors has met and voted on a resolution that involves shifting to a chartered association. Chartered associations are not stand-alone legal entities. They operate under the corporate umbrella of the SSA and have advisory boards that work collaboratively with the SSA state association management team.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO MEMBERS?

  1. No changes to your membership benefits, current dues, website passwords or NVSSA contact information.
    1. The SSA currently manages (and has been for the last 8 years) the NVSSA via our 3rd party management agreement. Under the agreement, the NVSSA has remained as a stand-alone entity in the state of Nevada. Shifting to a chartered association will ensure the NVSSA will continue to operate business as usual regardless of financial means or member participation. Like the other 18 SSA chartered state associations across the country, the NVSSA would continue to work proactively to improve the self storage laws in Nevada and defeat harmful legislation as needed, host member events and offer the platform of membership benefits currently offered to members.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO THE NVSSA?

  1. This change means the NVSSA will continue on. Currently, as a stand-alone entity, if the NVSSA were to run short in funds for member education or legislation, the NVSSA would not be able to host events or participate in legislative action opportunities. As a charted association of the National Self Storage Association, the NVSSA will remain an active association, supported by the SSA, with the ability to provide member support, education and legislative advocacy to the self storage industry in the state of Nevada.

WHAT ARE WE ASKING FROM YOU?

  1. We are asking you to vote yes.
    1. The NVSSA will be hosting an in person meeting where to NVSSA Board of Directors will call for a vote from the present members. Our meeting will be held on Thursday September 4th, 2025, at The Aria Hotel Resort & Casino in the Bluethorn 6 room at 9:45 AM – 10:15 AM. This meeting is free for NVSSA members to attend.
    2. In the event you are unable to attend the in person meeting, we are asking for your proxy vote.

IN PERSON MEETING

The Board of Directors of the Nevada Self Storage Association (NVSSA), in accordance with its bylaws, is calling a Special Meeting for September 4, 2025, at 9:45 AM – 10:15 AM that will be held at the Aria Resort & Casino that is located at 3730 S. Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, Nevada 89158 in the Bluethorn 6 room.

The sole topic for this meeting will be the consideration of the NVSSA Board of Director’s dissolution resolution that the Board previously approved on June 17, 2025. The dissolution resolution would authorize the NVSSA Board of Directors and SSA staff to take the necessary steps to wind down the NVSSA’s corporate existence and move the legal operations underneath the SSA.

Practically speaking, nothing will change for the NVSSA membership. Meetings and business as usual will continue. However, the proposed change would allow SSA staff to operate more effectively and effectively to deliver key benefits and services to the membership, saving the NVSSA membership time and money in the process.

Since the NVSSA is a membership-based organization, this proposed shift must be approved by the full membership. At the Special Meeting, a majority of members, including both owner / operator members and associate members, must approve the dissolution resolution.

Given the challenges with gathering the entirety of the membership for the meeting, the NVSSA Board of Directors is requesting that members grant their proxy to a board member who will attend the meeting. Todd Whear, NVSSA President, will be attending. That proxy, along with instructions, is attached to this email.

If you have any questions about this process, please contact Erin Lightfoot or Daniel Bryant
